Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • This recipe calls for heavy whipping cream. This makes it nice and thick and creamy. You could technically use half and half or whole milk, but it will not be as thick and creamy.
  • Sharp cheese is my favorite when making stovetop mac and cheese. It gives it a nice rich flavor. You could also use cheddar, Colby jack cheese, or another favorite.
  • You can add ingredients to your mac and cheese such as crumbled cooked bacon, pieces of cooked ham, or even cooked sausage.

Reheating

To reheat your mac and cheese you will want to place your desired amount in a microwaveable safe container and warm it in the microwave until it reaches your desired temperature.

If you find it is drying out a bit too much, you can add a little bit of milk to it and mix it in to make it creamy again.

Do you have to bake the mac and cheese?

You probably are thinking, wait you said this was stovetop mac and cheese, so why are you baking it?

You do not have to bake the mac and cheese, but this does give it the perfect crust which my family loves. If you are in a hurry, you can omit this step and just serve it right from the stove.
