I have been making dump cakes for years. I remember the day I was in a store and saw the book called Quick & Easy Dump Cakes and More. I had never even heard of a dump cake at that point. I was immediately fascinated. I could not put the cookbook down. I had to buy it and then went home and started baking. One of the very first dump cake I made was a Lemon Cream Cheese Dump Cake and it was love at first bite.

I went on to recreate several traditionally baked dump cakes, with flavors like Apple Toffee Dump Cake. Cherry Cheesecake Dump Cake and Pumpkin Dump Cake.
Once I got my first instant pot, I quickly decided I needed an experiment and see if I could cook dump cakes in my instant pot. How incredible would that be?! Incredible is exactly what it is. Dump cakes were designed to be an easy dump and go recipes.
Making them in your instant is even easier!! You will load up all of your ingredients into your serving dish and cook within that pot, inside your instant pot. That is called pot in pot cooking. (PIP)
What Is A Dump Cake
A dump cake is a classic dessert that has literally been around for years. You use a boxed cake mix, pie filling and butter to create a magical cake that you do pretty much nothing to make it happen. Dump into your pan or in this case the Instant Pot. Turn it on and let it handle the rest. You end up with a delightful cake that took minimal effort to make.

What Type of Cake Mix Do You Use For A Dump Cake
Depending on the flavor of your dump cake will depend on what type of boxed cake mix to use. I have found that white, yellow, and even spiced cake are all great bases. And if you are a chocolate lover the chocolate cake is great. I just stock up on cake mixes when I am at the store to have them on hand for any variation I might be craving.
How Do You Reheat Dump Cake
I have found that depending on what the variety is I either eat it cold straight from the fridge or I choose to warm it up in the microwave. You could reheat the cake in the oven if you would prefer, you just want to cover with aluminum foil so it doesn’t dry out as it reheats.
Best Dump Cake Recipe
It is hard to say what the best dump cake recipe is. Depending on the season and temperature outside depends on what I whip up. In the summer and spring, I reach for lemon and cheesecake, and then in the winter and fall months, we prefer apple and pumpkin flavors. So you decide what is best, and let me know!
