Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Be sure you do not use soft peppermints for this recipe. The flavor is weaker and they tend to have a grainy texture as they melt. Try at your own risk if you choose.
- You will want to use good vodka because it gives the finished product a much better taste. Using cheap vodka it will taste like cheap peppermint vodka. Smirnoff vodka is a nice balance of quality and affordability.
- Combining all your ingredients into one jar is doable, but it will take longer to sit. I recommend breaking it up into a few jars.
- To serve your peppermint vodka, I like to crush up candy canes or peppermint candies. I then dip the top of the shot glass in light corn syrup and then crush peppermints.
Storage
You will want to store your peppermint vodka in a cool place like the pantry. You will find it starts to have a bitter aftertaste as it becomes old.
However, storing it in the fridge extends the shelf life and enhances flavor, preventing a bitter taste. You will want to use sealed containers, such as mason jars. This method ensures longevity in the fridge and it will last a long time.
