Tips & Tricks for Pumpkin Pretzels
- Use a Fork for Dipping – To get a smooth, even coating of chocolate on your pretzels, use a fork to dip them into the melted candy melts. Gently tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate before placing the pretzels on parchment paper.
- Chill to Set Quickly – If you’re short on time, pop the coated pretzels in the fridge for a few minutes to help the chocolate set faster.
- Switch Up the Colors – For variety, try using different candy melt colors like white or milk chocolate and adding contrasting sprinkles for a unique spin on this treat.
- Be Patient with the M&M Stem – When adding the green M&M “stem,” hold it in place for a second or two to ensure it sticks to the chocolate before letting it set.
- Batch-Friendly – Double the recipe if you’re making these for a crowd. They store well and are a great make-ahead treat for Halloween parties.
Melting chocolate:
In a microwave-safe container microwave candy melts at 50% power or the defrost setting on your microwave. Melt for one minute to start. Remove and stir. Place back in the microwave for additional 30 seconds at 50% power. Remove and stir. Continue to do this in 30 second intervals until smooth and creamy. Remember less is better. You can help melt some pieces that are still not fully melted by stirring with a spoon. You do not want to over microwave your chocolate.
FAQ’s For Making Pumpkin Pretzels
- Can I use other types of chocolate instead of candy melts?
Yes! You can use white, milk, or dark chocolate, but candy melts are recommended for vibrant colors and a smoother coating. You can also add food coloring to white chocolate if you want to achieve the classic orange look. - How long do these pretzels stay fresh?
Pumpkin pretzels can stay fresh for up to 1-2 weeks when stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Be sure to keep them away from moisture to prevent the pretzels from becoming soggy. - Can I make these pretzels in advance?
Absolutely! Pumpkin pretzels are a great make-ahead treat. You can prepare them a few days before an event and store them in a cool, dry place. - What if I don’t have orange nonpareils?
If you can’t find orange nonpareils, feel free to use any fall-themed sprinkles or skip this step altogether. The pretzels will still look great with the orange candy melts and green M&M stem. - Can I substitute the pretzels with another snack?
Sure! You can use mini rice cakes, graham crackers, or even cookies as a base for this recipe. Just be sure to adjust the amount of chocolate for an even coating.
