How to Make Air Fryer Cinnamon Rolls
- Turn on your air fryer and preheat it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, butter, and cinnamon until it’s evenly combined and resembles wet sand. Set aside.
- Lightly flour your working area and roll out the pizza dough, one long side of the rectangle facing you.
- Evenly spread the filling mixture across the entire surface of the dough all the way to the edges, being careful not to tear the dough.
- Starting from the bottom edge closest to you, tightly roll the dough into a log-like shape. Once it’s all rolled up, place the log seam side down.
- Using a sharp knife, gently slice the roll into 2-inch thick pieces, being careful not to smash the dough. You should end up with about 8 slices.
- Lightly grease a round 8-inch baking pan with butter or line with parchment paper. Arrange the cinnamon rolls in the pan with about ¼ inch of space between them. If your air fryer is small, you can line the inside of the air fryer with parchment paper and place the cinnamon rolls directly in the basket.
- Air fry for 17-20 minutes, or until the cinnamon rolls are golden brown along the edges and the centers are cooked through.
- Remove from the air fryer and let it cool. Meanwhile, prepare the icing.
Prepare the icing:
- In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat together the cream cheese and butter on high speed until smooth.
- Add the powdered sugar and beat on high speed until smooth and no clumps remain about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the heavy whipping cream and beat on high speed for another 1-2 minutes.
- Add the vanilla extract and vinegar and beat on medium speed until incorporated about 30 seconds.
- Top the cinnamon rolls with icing and serve.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Be sure to spread the filling mixture to the edge of the dough. If you don’t this may cause dry spots in your cinnamon rolls.
- If the tops of your cinnamon rolls begin to brown quickly, make a tent out of foil to cover the rolls while they continue to cook.
- The icing should be smooth and spreadable. If you want it to be more of a drizzle, feel free to add 3 tablespoons of milk to it and mix it.
- When using pizza dough, the cinnamon rolls may have a tendency to spread and “unroll” a bit. The best way to prevent this is to place them close together when air frying (about ¼ inch apart) but not too far apart as well.
- If you prefer you can use store-bought icing. I recommend cream cheese icing.
- You can omit the icing if you prefer and use butter or extra cinnamon and sugar.
- You can use light brown sugar if you would like. This won’t have as rich of a flavor, but it will still taste great.
- You will want to use full-fat cream cheese to give it that nice rich smooth texture that we all love.
- Feel free to chop up walnuts or pecans and add them to the filling, or sprinkle on top.
- Add finely diced apples for an “apple pie” flavored cinnamon roll if you prefer.
- You could even add some chopped bacon or sausage on top for a nice sweet and savory roll.
Storage
These are best enjoyed right away.
You can store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
You can store extra icing in a separate airtight container. This will last up to 5 days.Freezer
To freeze your leftover air fryer cinnamon rolls you will want to wrap them in foil and place in the fridge. This will last up to 2 months.
Reheating
You can reheat your cinnamon rolls in the air fryer at 350 for 5 minutes, or in the microwave for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
I have a 1-pound bag of pre-made pizza dough, can I use that in this recipe?
Yes. If you are using that type of pre-made pizza dough, just roll it out into a large ¼-inch thick rectangle. I also recommend increasing the filling recipe by about 15 percent to avoid dry cinnamon rolls.
The vinegar is to help add an extra “tang” to the cream cheese frosting and offset the sweetness. You can leave it out if you’d like, but I highly recommend it for balance and complexity.
Technically you can, but you will end up with some butter and sugar drippings in the bottom of your air fryer.
