Air Fryer Calzones

Sharing is caring!

Air Fryer Calzones are the perfect pizza night at home. Add your dipping marinara, ranch or favorite calzone sauce.

Making homemade calzones are always welcomed by my kids. They can’t get enough. Whether stuffed with ground meats, pepperoni, veggies, or just meat and cheese. Whatever it is, they devour them.

Air Fryer Calzones

I am a major pizza lover. So making these in the air fryer was a fun experiment for me. It was so easy to whip up, tasty, and the perfect texture.

What Is A Calzone

Calzones are pretty much folded pizza. You use circular dough that you fill half with pizza toppings, fold over and then secure the edges.

Then calzones are generally baked or air fried. You get a fantastic crispness on the outside with a fluffy dough on the inside and don’t forget the filling.

What To Use For Calzone Filling

  • Meat | Ground beef, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, sausage, etc.
  • Vegetables | Green peppers, onions, mushrooms, etc.
  • Cheese | While we enjoy mozzarella you are more than welcome to swap out to whatever cheese you like.

Feel free to create whatever flavors you want in your calzone. Just don’t overstuff or you will have a hard time sealing up the edge.

Easy Air Fryer Calzones

Using your air fryer it saves you from having to turn on the oven. It is a quick cook time, turns golden brown, and offers the perfect texture.

I highly recommend making your air fryer calzones. They are so simple and yet satisfying.

Serve up as dinner or an appetizer or snack. Feel free to whip these up anytime of the day.

What To Dip Your Calzones In

You are more than welcome to pair with any of your favorite dippers. Ranch dressing, classic marinara, a butter sauce, etc.

You might also prefer to eat them plain, they are great that way too. But you can use a homemade sauce, or buy your favorite jarred sauce.

Tips For Making Air Fryer Calzones

  • Don’t Overstuff | If you overfill you will have a hard time crimping the edges.
  • Saute Vegetables | Feel free to saute the vegetables if you prefer tender vegetables.
  • Dough | Feel free to buy dough or make your own if you prefer a homemade dough.

What To Serve With Calzones

  • Side Salad is a nice light side that helps to bring down the heaviness of the dish. Feel free to do a wedge salad or tossed.
  • Vegetables are another great option. You can pair your favorite vegetable next to your calzones. This is a great way to get extra vegetables in your child’s diet.
  • Fresh Vegetables and Dip Serve up some crisp veggies and dip for a crunchy side.
  • Fruit can be a nice option as well. Whether freshly cut or a fruit salad.

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Air Fryer Calzones are the perfect pizza night at home. Add your dipping marinara, ranch or favorite calzone sauce.

  1. Lay your pizza on a lightly floured surface. Use a bowl or other round object to create circle in your dough. Cut the circles and remove the excess dough.
  2. Place a piece of mozzarella cheese on one side of each piece of dough.
  3. Take a heaping spoon full of Ricotta cheese and place on top of the mozzarella cheese.
  4. Lightly beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush on the outer edge of each dough circle. Fold the dough over in half, making sure you have at least a half inch border that you will crimp with a fork to seal.
  5. Brush the top of each calzone with the egg wash.
  6. Sprinkle each top with Parmesan cheese and Italian Seasoning.
  7. Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees. I placed my tray in the lowest rack, you do not want your dough to brown too quickly. Cook for 6-7 min flipping once in the middle of cooking.
  8. Serve hot & enjoy!
