Buttermilk bread has a mild buttermilk flavor that is very moist. It is the perfect bread for sandwiches, bread, and butter, or to enjoy with soups and salads.
Ingredients
1 ¼ cups buttermilk, room temperature
2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
3 cups all purpose flour
2 ¼ teaspoons (or 1 packet) active dry yeast
How to Make Bread Machine Buttermilk Bread
- Place the ingredients in the bread machine in the order recommended by your bread machine’s manufacturer.
- Program the bread machine using the “basic” setting for a 1 ½ pound loaf.
- When the cycle is completed, remove the bread from the baking pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Shake your buttermilk in the carton before measuring it. This helps distribute the buttermilk flavor that usually sinks to the bottom as it sits in the fridge.
- You will want to make sure your buttermilk is at room temperature. If it is too cold, it will not activate the yeast and your bread will not rise.
