INGREDIENTS:
- 1 pound breakfast sausage (I like using Mild Tennessee Sausage)
- 2 cups Bisquick Pancake and Baking Mix
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (because the sausage is already pretty flavorful I did not add any other seasoning, but you can adapt the seasoning to your liking and depending on the sausage you use)
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 ½ cup mild Cheddar cheese, shredded. (You can use any cheese of your liking. Colby Jack was a great alternative as it has a less pronounced flavor than the Cheddar. I like shredding the cheese at home as it is fresher, and melts better, but you can use pre-shredded bags of your favorite cheese blend)
How to Make Air Fryer Bisquick Sausage Balls
- Mix the breakfast sausage, Bisquick mix, garlic powder, milk, and Cheddar cheese in a large mixing bowl.
- Using a cookie scoop (I used a medium OXO Good Grip cookie scoop), scoop the dough into balls. Roll them in the palm of your hands and put them on a plate.
- Line the air fryer basket with parchment paper, and place balls in the air fryer leaving enough space in between so it can cook evenly. (For the Ninja Foodi 14-1 basket I place 7, and for the Cosori I place 9 balls per cook)
- Cook in the air fryer on a manual setting. Ninja Foodi 14 in 1 temperature 360 for 8-10 minutes. Cosori Air Fryer temperature 370 for 8-9 minutes. Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
- Once they are cooked, carefully take them out of the Air Fryer basket and place them on a cooling rack.
- Serve and Enjoy!
Tips & Tricks
- Use Freshly Shredded Cheese: For the best flavor and texture, shred your own cheese instead of using pre-packaged shredded cheese. It melts better and gives the sausage balls a creamier, richer taste.
- Don’t Overmix the Dough: When combining the ingredients, mix just until everything is incorporated. Overmixing can make the sausage balls dense instead of light and tender.
- Space Them Out: Leave enough space between the sausage balls in the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking. Crowding the basket can lead to uneven browning and soggy spots.
- Check the Temperature: Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). This ensures the sausage is fully cooked while keeping the balls juicy.
- Make-Ahead Friendly: These sausage balls can be prepped ahead of time and stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours before cooking. You can also freeze uncooked sausage balls for up to 3 months—just add a couple of minutes to the cooking time when air frying straight from the freezer.
- Line the Basket: Use parchment paper or a silicone liner to prevent sticking and make cleanup a breeze. Just ensure the parchment paper doesn’t block air circulation.
- Serve Fresh & Warm: Sausage balls taste best fresh out of the air fryer when they’re warm, crispy, and cheesy. Pair them with dipping sauces like ranch, honey mustard, or marinara for an extra treat!

can impossible sausage be used instead of real sausage?
My best guess since I have never used impossible sausage myself, would be yes. I am assuming it will work fine. 🙂
