Are Apple Chips Healthy
Relatively speaking, yes they are healthy. If you eat them plain without any sugar you are upping the health factor but that is why I say relatively speaking. I like the sweetness and find it worth the use of sugar. You can absolutely change the flavor profile on your apple chips as well, eliminating the sugar and creating a more savory apple chip. Overall they are a very healthy option for your family. By making them homemade you are removing any additives that you would find in a store-bought version. Overall I would consider this a very healthy option for you and your family.
Tips Tricks and FAQS
- Be sure you are consistent with your apple slices. Having apple slices of all different thicknesses will cause them to not be done at the same time.
- To keep your apples from browning you will want to coat them with a little lemon juice before adding your spice mixture.
- These apple chips will cook as they cool. So if they are a bit soft coming out of the air fryer, don’t panic, they will crisp up.
- You will want to pat your apples completely dry before cooking them in the air fryer. This speeds up the cooking time substantially.
- You can swap out the pumpkin pie spice for apple pie spice or ground cinnamon instead.
- These air fryer apple chips taste great alone or dipped! Try dipping them in cream cheese spread, caramel, or peanut butter.
- You do not need to core the apples to make these.
Storage
You will want to store these in an airtight container at room temperature for 5 days. Over time they will become less crispy but will still taste delicious.
