Can I Make Wingettes out of Chicken Wings?
This recipe calls for wingettes, but sometimes they are difficult to find at the store. It is very easy to make your own wingettes with just a few basic steps.
First, you will want to find where the two joints meet. You will do this with your fingers.
Then using your kitchen scissors you will want to cut through the center of the joint. This will leave you with a drumette, a wingette (what we will use for this recipe), and the tip. I usually discard the tip and then freeze the drumettes for another recipe later on.
How to make Ninja Foodi Grill Crispy Chicken Wings
- Place your wingettes, melted butter, and season all in a Ziploc bag. Massage to coat your wingettes thoroughly.
- Insert the removable cooking pot only. You do not need the grill insert to air fry these.
- Press the air crisp button, the temperature will be set to 390 degrees, set the time to 20 minutes, press Start. Allow preheating
- Once “Add Food” flashes, add chicken wingettes into the pot, close the lid.
- At 8 minutes, open the grill and flip meat, closing the lid once again.
- Cook for another 8 minutes
- Open and check after 8 minutes. If you want extra crispy, keep in another 2-3 minutes until nice and crispy.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Grab your favorite blue cheese dressing, ranch, or buffalo wing sauce to dip these wings in.
- Adjust the time based on how crispy you want your wings. Just be sure your internal chicken temperature reaches 165 degrees.
- You can easily make a double batch of this recipe. I would not cook more than 2 dozen wings at a time though.
Storage
Fridge
You will want to store your leftover chicken wings in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Can I grill these instead of air fry?
Yes, you can! Insert your grill grate into your pot. Press the grill button, set the temperature to HIGH, set the time to 20 minutes & press START. Allow preheating. Once “Add Food” flashes, add chicken wingettes onto the grill, close the lid. At 7 minutes, open the grill and flip meat, closing the lid once again. Grill for a total of 10-14 minutes, using a thermometer to check doneness.
