Air fryer potatoes are my favorite way to cook potatoes! They are crispy and full of so much flavor and ready in about 30 minutes! But what if I told you that you could transform that potato into an even better treat by making these Air Fryer potato skins?
You and your family are going to love these potato skins cooked in the air fryer as they are crispy and loaded with all your favorite toppings. Once you make these you will want to keep making them again and again.
How to Make Air Fryer Potato Skins
- Scrub and rinse potatoes. Rub each potato with olive oil and sprinkle it with salt and pepper.
- Place potatoes in the air fryer. Set to 400 degrees for 30 minutes. To check doneness, insert a sharp knife in the middle. Potato is done when the knife goes in easily.
- Remove from air fryer. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes. Slice in half with a sharp knife. Scoop out the middle, leaving a thin layer of potato on the skins. Fill each skin with cheese and bacon.
- Place back into the air fryer at 400 degrees for 5 minutes or until cheese is melted. Serve with sour cream and green onions (optional).
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- When choosing your potatoes you want to pick ones that are very firm with smooth skin. You want to avoid potatoes that are soft.
- Be sure to scrub your potatoes really well since you will be eating the skin.
- Pre-cooked bacon saves you lots of time and mess! Use bacon bits or bacon that requires you to just cook it for a few seconds in the microwave.
- You can easily double or triple the recipe if you are serving a crowd.
Storage
You will want to save your leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
These will freeze nicely for up to 3 months before air frying them for the second time. Let these completely cool and then wrap them in foil and then place them in a freezer-safe bag.
Thaw in the fridge and then prepare as directed. Cook for 5 minutes at 400 degrees or until fully heated.
Reheat your potatoes in an Air fryer at 300 degrees for about 5 minutes or until they are warmed all the way through.
You may also reheat them in the microwave for 30-second intervals until your desired temperature.
You can make these up to 2 days ahead of time. Prepare the potatoes as directed by cooking it for 30 minutes. Once done, let them cool and then cover them and place them in the fridge. When you are ready to enjoy, cut it open and prepare as directed.
