Instant Pot Beef Tips

One of my favorite dishes in the Instant Pot are these Instant Pot Beef Tips. We have been making it for years and I can’t believe I haven’t shared it with you yet! The first time I made Slow cooker beef tips my family fell in love, it was only natural that I needed to try it out in my instant pot for a quick delicious weeknight meal.

This dish is tender and full of so much flavor and ready to enjoy in no time. It is my go-to dish when we are craving a really nice piece of beef. We pair it with rice and Air fryer vegetables. It is the perfect meal that everyone always enjoys. 

What cut of beef do I use for beef tips?

Technically you can use any cut of beef, but I prefer to always use sirloin tips. You can use tenderloin or even get a chuck roast and cut it into larger chunks to create beef tips for a budget friendly alternative. If you do go this route try to get a sirloin tip roast. 

Instant Pot Beef Tips

Ingredients:

1/2 medium onion finely chopped

1/2 cup water

1/3 cup of Dale’s Seasoning Sauce

1 large can (or 2 small cans) of cream of mushroom soup

2 pounds of sirloin beef tips

1 tsp olive oil

1 tbsp garlic powder

How to Make Instant Pot Beef Tips

1. Set Instant Pot to the saute setting. Once warm, add olive oil, beef tips, and onion.

Stir and sauté for 5 minutes or until meat starts to brown.

2. Add water, Dale’s, and cream of mushroom soup, and garlic powder. Stir to mix well,

and then cover with lid.

3. Cook on Manual Setting on High Pressure for 25 minutes. It will take a few minutes to

come to pressure.

4. Once done, allow to naturally release for 20 minutes.

5. Serve over rice (or sub noodles or mashed potatoes) and serve with french bread to

sop up the gravy

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • Feel free to add slices of mushrooms to the instant pot for even more flavor. If you add mushrooms you will want to add them prior to the cream of mushroom soup. Then you will pour the mushroom soup over all the ingredients in the Instant Pot. 
  • Be sure you let your Instant Pot naturally release for at least 20 minutes. This is the secret to nice tender beef tips.

Storage

You will want to store your leftover beef tips in the fridge in an airtight container. This will keep for up to 3 days.

Are beef tips the same as stew meat?

Beef tips and stew meat are not the same. If you are having a hard time finding meat labeled as beef tips you want to make sure the label says that it contains sirloin or tenderloin.

Why is my beef tough in the Instant Pot?

If you are cooking beef in the Instant pot and it is still tough, this means you need to cook it longer because it needs more time to braise to break down the connective tissue in the beef.

Instant Pot Beef Tips

Instant Pot Beef Tips are one of the most tender pieces of beef that you can easily make in the Instant Pot in less than an hour. Serve beef tips over rice (my personal favorite) or a nice plate of mashed potatoes.
