Sweetened condensed milk is something that I don’t use that often. I find myself stocking up around Christmas time and then allowing the cans to expire throughout the year. Then when I need it I often pull out the expired can and have to take a last minute trip to the store.
If you are like me, this easy to make homemade sweetened condensed milk recipe is for you! It is so easy to make and takes about 15 minutes total time. I find that the flavor is so much better and fresher than the canned sweetened condensed milk that I prefer to always make my own from now on anyways.

Ingredients:
- ¾ Cup White Granulated Sugar
- ¾ Cup Dry Milk
- ½ Cup Hot Water
How to Make Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Combine all three ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.
- Whisk until no clumps remain and ingredients have dissolved.
- Allow to rest and thicken for about 10 minutes.
- Use immediately or store in a sealed container in the fridge.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Don’t worry if your sweetened condensed milk is not as thick as you think it should be once you are done making it. As it cools and rests it will thicken.
- You can use whole dry milk or 2% dry milk for this recipe.
- You want to make sure that your water is very hot so that it will dissolve the sugar and dry milk. If your milk is not hot enough you may taste some of the grittiness and have clumps.
- This recipe makes 14 ounces. This is one can of sweetened condensed milk that you would buy at the store.
- You can double the recipe if you prefer.
Storage
Store your sweetened condensed milk in a sealed container in the fridge. This will keep for 4-6 days.
