Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you are hoping to have leftovers the next day, add meat and dressing to individual bowls of salad. This helps prevent it all from going soggy in the fridge.
  • Try cool ranch Doritos for a fun twist on the taco salad.
  • Add your favorite ingredients to your salad! Try pinto beans instead of black beans. Try adding olives and sour cream as well.
  • Be sure to mix the salad right before eating. If you mix it too early, it will quickly become soggy.
  • If you are trying to save on calories, use salsa instead of the dressing.

Do you eat taco salad hot or cold?

Depending on who you ask will determine if you eat this hot or cold. Taco salad is served both hot and cold.

Growing up my mom would mix everything together when we had taco salad and that would make it a warm salad.

Now I prefer it to be cold with just the meat warm.

What goes with taco salad?

If you are craving taco salad, you can pair almost anything with it for a delicious meal! I love to have

  • Chips and guacamole
  • Chips and salsa
  • Chips and queso
  • Spanish rice
  • And a Mexican drink like a margarita or Horchata

Storage

You will want to store your leftover salad in the fridge. If you mix the meat with the rest of the salad you will find that the lettuce will wilt.

I prefer to store the lettuce and all the extras in an airtight container together and then store the meat separately. This way I can heat the meat up and add it to the salad. I like to top it with additional Doritos and salad dressing.

If you store it this way, it will last for up to 5 days in the fridge.
