Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you cannot find BBW sauce, you can use any Parmesan garlic sauce you can find at the store.
  • If you are looking for a healthier low-carb alternative, you can omit the pasta and choose rice or serve it alone with a salad on the side.
  • Cream cheese acts as a thickener, but you can use heavy whipping cream if you prefer. This will create a thinner sauce.
  • You can easily add vegetables to this dish to give it more flavor and color.

Can you put frozen chicken in a slow cooker?

No. Your frozen chicken will take a long time to cook in the slow cooker, and may spend too long in the “danger zone” temperature where bacteria can grow. Your safest choice is to thaw it first.

    1. @Yvonne, Absolutely! You can use frozen chicken you just have to cook it longer and check it with a meat thermometer to make sure it reaches 165*

    1. You may even want to just do 1 1/2 the recipe. I think that would be plenty of food. I feed 6 here and really had plenty with the recipe as is. Enjoy!

  1. I didn’t completely read ingredients and bought grated parmesan instead of shredded. Will that work? Can I use shredded mozzarella instead?

      1. So glad I saw this question and answer. I just shrugged and dumped the grated parm in hoping for the best

  2. I omitted the cream cheese because we do not like it. Did not use whipped cream either, but will do it in the future. It is a good pasta dish on its own. Lots of “after burner spicy” favor. LOL

  3. I am attempting this recipe as i type this, but realized i only have the grated style of parmesan cheese, not shredded.

Can i make it without the cheese, make it with the grated style, or can the shredded wait until i can get to the store and stir it in later?

    1. If you’re going to make it without cheese, then don’t even try the recipe. It’s pointless without cheese.

  4. So I’m wondering if anyone has been able to adapt this recipe to an oven bake? Especially if one is using fully cooked/rotisserie chicken at the beginning? Maybe a “no boil pasta”/dump ‘n bake recipe using these same ingredients?

  5. I love this recipe. Made it a few times and tweaked it to our liking by adding sautéed mushrooms and some spinach at the end. Delish!!

  6. I used 3 LB of thawed chicken, the BWW sauce, 1% milk, shredded Parm & 1LB rotini pasta. Cooked for 6 hrs on high.I was going to add spinach at the end, but I forgot. I did put a little onion powder when I was shredding the chicken. It was creamy & filling! Ate with salad on the side.

  7. Hello! Would i be able to use sausage instead of chicken? And I’m thinking about adding sun dried tomatoes

  8. This was spicy which I didn’t expected. In all fairness, my daughter and I can’t handle much spoce at all. I added sour cream to our bowls and mixed it all up….. that helped. Otherwise, super easy recipe and smelled delicious cooking!
