Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Any brand of cola will do. Use your favorite one.
- Be sure you use Dijon mustard and not yellow mustard. Using yellow mustard will change the flavor of this dish.
- Baste your ham as it cooks in the slow cooker. You will want to do this at least every 2 hours. I like to do it at least once an hour. The more you baste it the more the flavors will soak into the meat.
- If possible, you will want to use a precooked spiral-cut ham. This allows the glaze to get in between each of the slices of ham.
Storage
You will want to store your leftover ham in an airtight container in the fridge. This will keep for up to 5 days. Enjoy it for another meal or use leftovers in delicious recipes like Ham and Pea salad or ham and bean soup.
Freezer
If you prefer you can freeze your leftovers. These will last up to 4 months when properly stored in the freezer.
Can you cook this in the oven?
If you prefer to cook your Coca Cola ham in the oven you can. Add it to a larger roasting pan and then pour the glaze on top. Cover with foil and bake at 325 degrees for about 15 to 20 minutes per pound. The internal temperature needs to reach 140F.
Be sure to baste the ham every hour to prevent it from drying out.
