Chocolate Fondue Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 6 (1.55-ounce) milk chocolate bars, broken into small pieces (I used Hershey’s)
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup butter, sliced into cubes
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons orange liqueur or crème de cocoa (optional)

How to Make Chocolate Fondue

  • In a small pot, add the chocolate and melt over low heat, stirring often. Turn to medium heat and add the heavy whipping cream, sugar, butter, and salt. Cook and stir constantly for about 5 minutes or until the butter has melted and the mixture has thickened.

  • Stir in orange or cocoa flavoring and bring to a slight boil. Continue boiling and stirring for at least 5 minutes to evaporate some of the alcohol while keeping the flavor. Transfer mixture to a fondue pot or ceramic bowl and keep warm.

  • Serve with angel food cake cubes, marshmallows, strawberries, pretzels, or any other foods of your choice.

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you prefer you can omit the alcohol, but it adds a delicious flavor that you will love. Orange liqueur adds a hint of orange flavor that tastes so good.
  • The alcohol will evaporate a little bit while it is cooking, but it will still have alcohol in it. If you are concerned, you can omit it completely.
  • Be sure to constantly stir the chocolate to prevent it from burning in the pan.
  • You do not need to soften or melt the butter before adding it to the pan.

Can I use other kinds of chocolate when making fondue?

Yes! If you like your fondue less sweet, you can use unsweetened chocolate, but the amount of granulated sugar should be increased to 1 ½ cups. Bittersweet or semisweet chocolate may also be used.

What can I dip in my chocolate fondue?

There are so many possibilities to dip in your chocolate fondue. Try dipping:

  • Pretzels

  • Fruits

  • Potato chips

  • Marshmallows
