Step 1:
Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees. Remove biscuits from the can. Separate and place onto parchment paper or cutting board. Remove the middle with a cookie cutter or beverage cap.
Step 2:
Grease the air fryer basket with oil. Place 4 donuts into the basket with space in between. Cook for about 5 minutes, turning halfway through cook time.
Step 3:
While donuts are cooking, prepare the cinnamon-sugar mixture by combining sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl or paper bag. Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl (that’s big enough to put the donut in) for 15-30 seconds.
Step 4:
Once donuts are cooked, place them in the bowl of butter to coat on all sides. Transfer to cinnamon sugar and coat on all sides. Serve warm or allow to cool on a wire rack.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Be sure to not overcrowd the air fryer when making these. In a 4.1 liter air fryer, you can typically make 4 of these at a time.
- We used large refrigerated canned biscuits, you can use smaller biscuits if you would like, but just note you will need to adjust the cooking temperature.
- A shot glass is a perfect tool for removing the center of the donut.
- Don’t forget to save all the donut centers! Roll these a bit and you have 8 donut holes to enjoy as well.
- You want to ensure both sides of the donuts are golden brown before removing them from your air fryer.
- Once air fried, you want to immediately dip the donut in butter and then roll in the cinnamon and sugar mixture. A paper bag works great for coating the donuts with cinnamon sugar and it’s less messy.
Storage
You will want to let your donuts completely cool on a wire rack prior to storing. Store at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Can you use this recipe to make glazed donuts?
Yes! You can just omit the cinnamon sugar mixture and make a glaze. 1 ¼ cups powdered sugar, 3 Tablespoons of milk, and ½ teaspoon of vanilla.
