Chicken Divan is filled with tender pieces of chicken and broccoli, in a delicious creamy sauce that is topped with buttery bread crumbs. It is the perfect weeknight dinner that is hearty and full of flavor. Named after the Divan Parisien Restaurant in NYC’s Chatham Hotel where it was created there and served as a signature dish. I feel very regal when eating our delicious Chicken Divan.

They are easy to throw together in the morning and someone can pop them in the oven when it is time so we can sit down around the table as a family no matter how busy we are. Lately, we have been loving our squash casserole, our cornbread ground beef casserole, and of course this chicken divan recipe.

Chicken Divan is a creamy casserole that usually consists of cooked chicken, broccoli, cream of chicken soup, mayonnaise, cheese, and a crunchy topping.
How to Make Chicken Divan
- Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Prepare a 9×13 casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray.
- In a very large bowl, whisk together the soup, mayonnaise, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper.
- To the mixture, add the chicken and broccoli, stirring until evenly combined.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared casserole dish, spreading evenly in the baking dish. Sprinkle the cheese over the top.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and bread crumbs. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top of the casserole.
- Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until the edges are bubbling.

- You can substitute the bread crumbs for Ritz crackers if you prefer.
- Grab a rotisserie chicken from the store, use leftover chicken, or cook chicken in the Instant Pot to make this dish.
- If you prefer you can make homemade cream of chicken soup mix.
- You may use fresh broccoli if you prefer.
- You can swap out the mayonnaise for sour cream or do ½ and ½.

Store your leftover chicken divan in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freezer
You will want to let your dish completely cool before freezing. Once cooled, place in a freezer-safe container, or wrap your dish in foil to protect it from freezer burn. This will store for up to 3 months.
When you are ready to enjoy, thaw in the fridge overnight and warm.
Yes, you can make chicken divan up to 2 days in advance. Just make and assemble the dish (excluding the topping) and cover and place in the fridge. When you are ready to enjoy, preheat the oven, add the topping, and bake. You will need to add about 15 minutes of baking time if you are cooking it from the fridge.
