What do I need to get started?
- Crabmeat – fresh or canned lump crab meat
- Panko breadcrumbs – regular or seasoned
- Seafood seasoning – Old Bay, or other
- Eggs
- Mayonnaise – your favorite brand
- Red bell pepper – yellow or green
- Celery
- Dijon mustard
- Lemon
- Jalapenos – this is optional, if you don’t like it spicy, just omit
- Sweet pickle relish
How to Make Air Fryer Crab Cakes
- Line the air fryer basket with tinfoil and spray with cooking spray.
- Combine the crab meat, breadcrumbs, seafood seasoning, eggs, mayonnaise, bell pepper, celery, Dijon mustard, lemon zest, and lemon juice, and stir till well mixed.
- Shape a large tablespoon of the crab into a small patty and place it in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd. Do this in batches.
- Place the basket in the air fryer and set it to 375° for 10 minutes.
- Carefully flip the crab cakes and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
- While the crab cakes are cooking, combine the ingredients for the tartar sauce and stir well.
- Plate the crab cakes and serve with the tartar sauce.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
* To ensure your crab cakes are nice and moist, add the breadcrumbs to the crabmeat and then refrigerate for 1 hour prior to adding in the other ingredients.
* You can easily make the tarter sauce ahead of time and store it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
* When making crab cakes you want to use a good quality crab. The fresher the better!
* Mix and shape gently. This helps the crab from falling apart and the crab cakes from becoming too dense.
Storage
You will want to store your crab cakes in an airtight container in the fridge. These will last up to 5 days.
Can you freeze crab cakes?
Yes! You can freeze crab cakes. Let them completely cool and then place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and place them in the freezer until frozen.
Once they are frozen, you will want to add them to a freezer-safe bag for up to 3 months.
When you are ready to enjoy, thaw in the fridge and then reheat in the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes.

- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup finely diced red bell pepper
- 1/4 cup finely diced celery
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- Spicy Tartar Sauce:
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2-3 tablespoons chopped pickled jalapenos
- 2 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
