I hit the motherload with this recipe! It is loaded with flavor and the crispy outside you love when you bite into a beignet. You got to try this recipe!
What is A Beignet
New Orleans is famous for the hot and fresh beignets they sell. While these won’t taste exactly like what you get in New Orleans they sure are pretty close.
Beignets are like a donut texture that is generally fried in oil and then heavily dusted with powdered sugar. Warm, fluffy, and sweet all in one bite!
Can I Use All Purpose Flour Instead of Self Rising
Unfortunately, you need self-rising flour. All-purpose flour won’t give you the fluffy thickness you are looking for in these beignets. I am thinking all-purpose flour would fall short.
If you try it just know it will give you a different texture.
How to Make Air Fryer Beignets
Step 1: Start by mixing your wet ingredients together in a bowl. Once combined slowly add in dry.
Step 2: Once your dough forms, layout dough on a lightly floured surface. You will work it a bit to help ensure it is fully combined and workable by the touch.
Step 3: Now you will cut your beignets out of the dough and allow them to sit for 10-15 minutes. While they sit you can preheat your air fryer.
Step 4: Grease the rack or tray in the air fryer to prevent sticking. Place beignets and brush with butter. Cook according to the recipe card.
Step 5: Once done, dust liberally with powdered sugar and dive in!!
Do These Store Well
Unfortunately no they do not store the best. You will find it is best when eaten warm and fresh. The texture softens a bit, as they cook down.
Are they still delicious when cooled? Yes! But for best flavor and texture eat these air fryer treats when they are warm.
Tips for Making
My biggest tip is to ensure you leave room between so your dough doesn’t touch in the air fryer. Otherwise you will end up with a mess. Areas that touch won’t fully cook.
The air fryer needs to circulate the hot air on all areas of your beignet. Also make sure you don’t skip buttering, as they won’t get golden brown like you would hope.
If you double the recipe, batch cook! Then turn oven to 200 degrees and lay the beignets in a single layer on a cookie sheet to keep warm until you are ready to serve. Don’t pile up the beignets or they will become soggy.
We make these often and they are always a hit with my husband and kids. Try it out today and let me know what you think!

These are good in the weirdest kind of way! Definitely not like the traditional beignets, but still yummy! We’re making them for a Presidents’ Day tea time since beignets were one of our former presidents favorite foods!
