How do you pick a good asparagus bunch?
With so many different thicknesses, colors, and textures of asparagus it is hard to know how to pick a good asparagus.
- You want to make sure that when you hold an asparagus it will stand up. You do not want to pick ones that are limp or wilted.
- When looking at the color you want it to be a brighter green that fades to white at the bottom. If they appear to be dull that means they don’t have as much flavor because they are past their prime.
- When it comes to size you want to make sure the whole bunch is similar in size. It is extremely difficult to cook asparagus evenly when they vary in size.
How to Make Asparagus in the Air Fryer
- Pre-heat air fryer 350 degrees.
- Wash, trim and pat dry the asparagus.
- Lightly coat with olive oil.
- Squeeze half of a lemon onto the asparagus.
- Sprinkle with salt, pepper & garlic salt to taste.
- Place on the airfryer rack & cook for 6 minutes.
- Then flip the asparagus and cook for an additional 6 minutes.
- Serve with Parmesan cheese and enjoy.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Be sure to trim the ends of your asparagus prior to cooking. You will want to cut off about an inch.
- When prepping your asparagus I usually lay them on a piece of parchment paper for easy clean up. Just lay them flat, drizzle the oil, squeeze the lemon and sprinkle with garlic, salt and pepper. Mix them around a bit and then add to your Air Fryer.
- You can cook these as a whole spear or cut them in smaller pieces. If you do cut them smaller you will want to reduce cooking time.
- If you want to save some calories on this dish you can omit the parmesan cheese.
Storage
Asparagus are one of those dishes you want to enjoy right away. Over time they become mushy and soft as they sit.
Is it healthier to Air Fry Asparagus than roast them in the oven?
Yes! It is actually much healthier. The reason is the asparagus are not sitting directly in oil as they cook like they do in the oven.
