Rolled oats for topping
How to Make Cheesecake Factory Brown Bread
- In a bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and brown sugar with a whisk then set aside.
- In a separate bowl, combine the warm water, molasses, honey, and yeast, mixing together. Let the yeast activate in the mixture for 10 minutes.
- In the dry ingredient mixing bowl, create a divet in the middle to place the wet ingredient mixture.
- After the 10 minutes have passed add the warm water mixture into the center of the dry ingredients.
- Fold this together until a dough forms. It’s ok if it’s not fully mixed, you are going to transfer this to a clean surface to begin kneading.
- Knead the dough for 5-8 minutes until the dough is a smooth ball.
- Place into an oil coated bowl and roll the dough around in it to coat. Set the dough ball in the middle and cover it with plastic wrap
- Let this rise at room temperature for 2 hours.
- Once the 2 hours have passed, punch down the bread in the bowl. Remove the dough from the bowl, and break it into 3 even pieces.
- Roll out each ball into a long log. Place the 3 logs on a parchment covered baking sheet.
- Rub a little bit of water across the top of each log and sprinkle with the rolled oats topping.
- Cover in plastic wrap again and let sit for 30 more minutes.
- Remove the plastic wrap and place in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes.
- Slice with a bread knife and cover with butter, enjoy while still warm!
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- Be sure you give the yeast the full 10 minutes to activate to ensure that it will help the bread to rise.
- As the bread is rising be sure you place it in a nice location that does not get cold drafts from outside. On cooler days you can place it in your oven with the oven light on to help it to rise. Just be sure the oven is off if you plan to do this.
- When rolling out the bread into 3 loaves, be sure they are long and skinny loaves like what you will see at Cheesecake Factory.
- It is important to let the bread sit for 10 minutes after coming out of the oven, if you don’t wait you will find that your bread will tear when you try to cut it.
- If you want to make more than 3 loaves of bread you will need to make 2 separate batches to ensure the bread rises correctly. You can make them at the same time but in two separate batches.
Storage
You will want to store your Copycat Cheesecake Factory Brown bread in an airtight bag at room temperature for up to 3-4 days.
Freezer
The bread freezes nicely. Let it completely cool and then wrap it in plastic wrap and then in foil. This will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When you are ready to enjoy it, place it in the fridge overnight then place it on the counter to bring it back to room temperature. You can warm it back up in the oven for about 5 minutes once defrosted.
