Tequila Sunrise

What is the difference between a Tequila Sunrise and a tequila sunset?

A tequila sunrise and a tequila sunset are very similar. The only difference is a tequila sunset has a splash of soda water mixed with the grenadine to give the drink the red color on top instead of at the bottom.

How to Make Tequila Sunrise

  • Fill your cup ¾ of the way with ice.

  • Pour the tequila and orange juice into the glass.

  • Pour your grenadine gently down the side of the glass and let it settle for a few seconds.

  • Enjoy the layered colors before stirring. It will turn into a gorgeous blood orange color.

  • Top with a cherry, orange slice, and maybe one of those umbrellas, and enjoy!

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • If you would like to serve Tequila sunrise cocktails in hurricane glasses (highly recommended) then you will want to adjust the recipe to ½ ounce of grenadine and 6 ounces of Orange juice.
  • If you are serving a crowd you can easily make a big pitcher of this to enjoy with friends. You will want to use 1 cup of tequila for every 2 cups of orange juice. Add your grenadine to suit your taste buds.
  • If you want your drink to be even sweeter, swap out the orange juice for Sunny D.
  • When making cocktails that call for Orange juice I always recommend using a pulp free Orange juice.
  • The layers of this drink are so pretty, but I recommend giving it a good stir prior to drinking it.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of this drink by adding more or less Grenadine.
