Peanut butter balls are the perfect holiday treat! They are creamy and the peanut butter and chocolate combination is loved by everyone. With these 5 ingredient peanut butter balls, you will love the added crunch thanks to the Rice Krispie treat addition.

Who doesn’t love the combination of peanut butter and chocolate?! We can’t get enough of it. That is why we are constantly making Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream, Peanut Butter Eggs around Easter, and of course these peanut butter balls.

You will absolutely love how easy these are to make! They make for the perfect treat to enjoy throughout the whole holiday season! 

How to Make Peanut Butter Balls

Step 1:

Line cookie sheet with parchment paper.  In a large bowl, combine cereal and confectioners sugar.  In a medium bowl, add peanut butter and butter.  Cover with a paper towel.  Melt in microwave for 30 seconds. Stir and continue to heat another 10-30 seconds or until the butter has melted.

Step 2:

Pour peanut butter mixture into cereal and sugar mixture.

Stir until all ingredients have combined.  Allow mixture to cool slightly before rolling.  Using a cookie scoop and your hands, roll the mixture into 2 inch balls and place on a cookie sheet.

Chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes or longer.

Step 3:

Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments.  Once the chocolate is mostly melted, heat in 15-second increments until smooth.  Add 2-4 teaspoons of vegetable oil to thin chocolate slightly if desired.  This will allow for easier coating when dipping balls.

Step 4:

Once chilled, dip balls into melted chocolate to coat.  Place back onto cookie sheet.  Add sprinkles/toppings and chill to harden for at least 15 minutes.

Store refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.

Tips Tricks and FAQs

  • You can use creamy or crunchy peanut butter. In fact, any nut butter will work. 
  • You can use melted chocolate bars in lieu of chocolate chips if you prefer. You can also choose to use dark chocolate or white chocolate.
  • To make these easier to dip, place a toothpick in the balls prior to chilling. 
  • Use a fork to allow the excess chocolate to drip off. 
  • You can easily double or triple the recipe. 
  • If you would like to omit the Rice Krispie treat addition, you can.

Storage

Store your peanut butter balls in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

You can freeze your peanut butter balls in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. You want to make sure they are completely set prior to adding them to the container. Separate each layer with wax paper.

Can you use natural peanut butter to make peanut butter balls?

While you may be able to use natural peanut butter to make peanut butter balls, this recipe was not tested using it. 

What do I do if my peanut butter balls are sticky?

If you find that your peanut butter mixture is sticky, place them in the fridge for 30 minutes prior to rolling them.

Why is my peanut butter mixture crumbly?

The cause of this is usually too much powdered sugar. Add about ¼ cup more peanut butter and mix.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups riced cereal, such as Rice Krispies, plus extra for garnish
  • 2 ½ cups confectioners sugar
  • 2 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 5 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

    Step 1:
