What is chicken & stuffing casserole?
Chicken and stuffing casserole consists of bit size chicken pieces, monterey jack cheese, cream of chicken soup that is then covered with chicken flavored stuffing. It is a one-dish wonder that is easy to make that the whole family loves.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 ½ cups Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
- 2 (10.5-ounce) cans cream of chicken soup
- 2 (6-ounce) boxes of prepared chicken flavored stuffing (I used Stove Top)
How to Make Chicken and Stuffing Casserole
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In the baking dish, add the raw chicken and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Cover the chicken with a layer of Monterey Jack cheese, then evenly spread the 2 cans of soup (undiluted), then top with the prepared boxes of stuffing. Only layer the ingredients, do not mix together.
- Bake for 45 minutes or until the internal temperature of the chicken is at least 165°F and the stuffing is browned and crispy. Serve while hot.
Tips Tricks and FAQs
- If you prefer your stuffing to not be as browned you can cover your dish when there is 15 minutes of baking left. If you leave it uncovered your stuffing will have a beautiful crunch to it.
- The soup and cheese layers are interchangeable. It does not matter which you add first.
- You want to make sure that your chicken covers most of the bottom of the pan. Use however many pieces as needed to do this. You can use shredded chicken or chopped chicken pieces.
- You can swap out the cream of chicken soup for a different variety if you prefer.
- You can swap out the chicken for turkey or the chicken flavored stuffing for cornbread stuffing if you would like to change the flavor of this dish.
Storage
You will want to store your leftover chicken and stuffing casserole in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Over time, it will begin to get soggy and is best enjoyed right away.
