INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 cups of water (This water is for the inner pot because we are using the SteamBake setting we need water for the steam. Does not go in the recipe)
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 ⅓ cup milk (I used 2% milk you could use whole milk as well)
  • 6 to 7 cups cubed (approximately 1-inch cube) bread (I used Italian bread, approximately half of bread. You can use any bread you like. Depending on the bread you use this could mean 8 to 12 bread slices)
  • ⅓ cup chopped almonds (I like to chop them finely so I get the crunch in every bite)
  • ⅓ cups chocolate chips (I used semi-sweet chocolate chip, but you can change the chocolate chips to milk or even mint, white,…. for a different flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted (I used salted but you could use unsalted if you prefer)

How to Make Ninja Foodi Chocolate French Toast Casserole

  • Grease, or butter an 8-inch cake pan really well. Don’t forget the sides. Yes, you can use cooking spray, but I found out the butter gives a nice taste to the crust.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mix eggs and granulated sugar until combined.
  • Add the cocoa powder and the milk. Mix well. You can use a hand mixer, but I prefer using a whisk or my Danish Dough whisk.
  • Add the cubed bread to the milk/egg mixture and mix until all the bread is saturated.
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
  • Place the pan on the lower rack of the Deluxe reversible rack.
  • Pour 2 cups of water into the inner pot (the gray one) and place the Deluxe Reversible rack in it.
  • Set the Ninja Foodi on Steam Crisp and turn the dial to STEAM bake.
  • Set the temperature to 325 degrees F for 13 minutes. If after this time you would like the top more crispy, close the lid and add another minute.
  • Once it is cooked, Take the Deluxe reversible rack out of the inner pot and place the cake pan on a heat-proof surface.
  • Take a thin sharp knife and release the edge of the french toast from the cake pan.
  • Let it rest for 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Can you make this ahead of time?

This is best to be eaten right away. If you do decide to make it ahead of time, you will want to keep your french toast casserole in the pan and release it from the sides by running a sharp knife around the edges to release it from the sides.

Right before serving, place it back in your Ninja Foodi at 320 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 to 4 minutes or until warm.
