How Long Will Lemon Drop Moonshine Last
The Everclear significantly extends the shelf life of Lemon Drop Moonshine! Alcohol acts as a natural preservative, helping to prevent spoilage and maintain the flavor over time. When properly stored in airtight containers in a cool, dark place, Lemon Drop Moonshine can last up to 6 months or even longer.
The high alcohol content of Everclear (typically 190 proof) ensures that bacteria or mold are unlikely to grow, making this homemade liqueur a great option for preparing in advance or gifting. Just remember to shake the jar gently before serving, as some ingredients may settle over time.
Tips & Tricks for the Best Lemon Drop Moonshine
- Fresh Lemons Matter: For the best flavor, use freshly squeezed lemon juice instead of bottled. It makes all the difference!
- Cool Completely: Do not add Everclear until the mixture has cooled to room temperature to prevent the alcohol from evaporating.
- Straining Options: If you prefer a smooth drink, strain the mixture before adding it to your mason jars.
- Candy Touch: Drop a lemon candy into each jar for an extra pop of flavor and a fun, decorative touch.
- Storage Tip: Store your moonshine in airtight jars in a cool, dark place for up to three months.
FAQ’s
Can I use vodka instead of Everclear?
Yes, but the flavor will be slightly milder, and the alcohol content will be lower. Adjust to your taste preference.
Do I have to use an Instant Pot?
No, you can simmer the water, sugar, and lemon juice mixture on the stovetop until the sugar dissolves, but the Instant Pot speeds up the process.
How should I serve Lemon Drop Moonshine?
Enjoy it chilled, mix it into cocktails, or serve it over ice as a tangy after-dinner drink.
Can I double the recipe?
Yes, but make sure your Instant Pot is large enough to handle the increased volume without exceeding the max fill line.

I wonder if this would work with gin or tequila, since I need to stay away from grain-based drinks/foods.
Vodka or gin will work fine
I made this over the summer for a few friends (and myself, of course :)) and got so many compliments! I mixed fresh watermelon in mine, another friend muddled fresh cherries and blueberries, someone else froze it as a slushy. The possibilities are endless and delicious!
Does the water have to be filtered?
No, it’s fine if not.
This site is fantastic!?!
Can you use bottled lemon juice?
Yes, you absolutely can if you like
Just made this, super excited to try it. How long should you wait till the flavours are all infused? Weeks?
Thanks
You can drink it right away.
Can you use honey instead of sugar?
Sure I think that should be fine
Once prepared, how do you serve/drink this. I’m not a big liquor drinker but this looks interesting. Thanks
It is made to drink straight up as is over ice. You can mix in sprite or club soda if that’s your preference.
