Tips & Tricks

  • Use quality apple cider: The cider is one of the key flavors, so using fresh, high-quality apple cider will give your shots a better, more authentic apple pie taste. If you can’t find fresh cider, look for a good bottled version that doesn’t have added sugars or artificial flavors.
  • Let the gelatin dissolve completely: Be sure to let the gelatin dissolve fully in the hot apple cider and water mixture. Stir it well to avoid any clumps. If you see any lumps after adding the gelatin, heat the mixture back up on low and stir until smooth.
  • Cool the mixture before adding alcohol: Allow the cider and gelatin mixture to cool for at least 15–30 minutes before adding the whiskey. If it’s too hot when you add the alcohol, it can affect the flavor and texture of your shots.
  • Use plastic shot cups: Opt for 2 oz plastic shot cups for easy serving and to keep the jello shots from sticking. These cups are also convenient for chilling in the fridge and serving at parties.
  • Adjust the alcohol content: If you want a stronger kick, feel free to add a bit more Fireball or Royal Apple whiskey. If you prefer a milder taste, reduce the amount slightly, but be cautious not to add too much liquid, as it could affect the texture.
  • Add garnishes for extra flair: To make these shots even more festive, top them with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or a tiny slice of apple. This adds a nice finishing touch and makes them look even more like the real deal!
  • Let them set fully: Be patient and let the shots set in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results. If they’re not fully set, they might not hold together properly when you serve them.

FAQs

Yes, you can definitely make apple pie jello shots ahead of time! In fact, it’s best to let them sit in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or even overnight, so they set properly. This makes them a great make-ahead treat for parties or gatherings.

The jello shots are ready when they’re firm to the touch and no longer jiggle when moved. If they’re still wobbly after a few hours, they may need more time to set, so just leave them in the fridge longer.

For an extra touch of flavor and presentation, top your jello shots with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon or even a small slice of apple. This adds to the “apple pie” experience and makes them look even more festive!
