Tips Tricks and FAQs
- I love using french bread for this recipe, but sourdough also works great.
- Be sure to let your casserole sit in the fridge for at least an hour. I always do it overnight because it really allows the egg mixture, and the apple filling to soak into the bread so it is bursting with even more flavor when you are ready to enjoy it.
Storage
Store your leftover apple french toast casserole in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
Why is my french toast casserole soggy?
The number one problem of soggy french toast casserole is adding too much milk to the egg mixture. If there is too much of this mixture it does not cook correctly and the bread will stay soggy even after cooking.
What toppings can I add to this dish?
With the apple pie filling and the streusel you won’t need to add anything else to this dish. But if you would like you can also serve it with
- Maple syrup
- Whipped cream
- Powdered sugar sprinkled on top
- Or even a caramel drizzle, yum!
