How To Use Homemade Vicks Rub with Essential Oils

One point I want to get across is children under 3 need to be checked up with a pediatrician before using this. For children 3 and up, you can apply a small amount to your hands and rub it to warm up. Then gently apply to chest, back, and bottoms of feet, and behind the knees.

I find these points on the body really help to open up your breathing and work all the mucus and junk out of your system.

    1. I mix coconut oil with eucalyptus and put it in the medicine tray on the Vicksburg vaporizer. I was worried the machine might reject it or catch on fire or something equally tragic, but we’ve been doing it for years no problem. Coconut oil and a drop or two of essential oils is not only healthier, it is WAY cheaper than the kind the brand sells.

  1. Can’t wait to make this! Also great for sore muscles. One question, how much is one scoop? My coconut oil didn’t come with a scoop 🙁

  2. I’m sure you know already, but be careful using peppermint and eucalyptus on kids under the age of 10. Both can cause breathing problems and harm the central nervous system for young children. For children over the age of 2, it’s safer to use pine, spruce, fir, or cypress for congestion problems! 🙂

  3. Thank you for posting these comments. While I don’t have little ones anymore I didn’t know this information and I work with preschoolers everyday. This was good information to share.

    1. Coconut oil has an extremely low melting point. If it’s hardened, literally just scraping some out and warming between hands will liquefy it. If it’s too hard to scrape, you may have to go to other measures. But, I’ve never had that problem. 100% Pure Virgin Coconut Oil
