Pennsylvania Casserole AKA Kielbasa & Pierogi Casserole

I first came across this recipe from TikTok creator @alicia_curley. After watching her make what appears to be a treasured family recipe, I knew I had to give it a try. I couldn’t find another version that matched hers exactly, so full credit goes to Alicia for the original recipe inspiration. We simply tested it in our own kitchen and absolutely loved the results.

As a family of six, I’m always looking for dinners that will satisfy everyone at the table without leaving people searching for a second meal an hour later. This casserole delivered. My boys are huge fans of both kielbasa and pierogies, but this was a completely different way of serving them than what I usually make. The creamy sauce, smoky kielbasa, tender pierogies, and melted cheese all came together into one comforting dish.

The biggest compliment? Every single leftover disappeared. That’s always a good sign in my house.

Tips & Tricks

  • Mini pierogies are easier to stir and serve, but regular-sized pierogies work just as well.

  • If you prefer a creamier casserole, add a little extra cheese before serving.
  • Make sure your ground beef is fully cooked and drained before adding it to the crockpot.
  • Slice the kielbasa into even pieces so it heats evenly throughout the casserole.

FAQs

Absolutely. I used mini pierogies because they were easier to manage, but regular-sized pierogies work perfectly in this recipe.

Cheddar is our favorite, but Colby Jack, Monterey Jack, or a cheese blend would all work well.

Yes. Allow the casserole to cool completely before storing it in freezer-safe containers for up to 3 months.

This recipe easily fed my family of six with leftovers. Depending on portion size, it should serve 6–8 people comfortably.

Our Honest Thoughts

We make kielbasa and pierogies fairly often, so I wasn’t sure if this casserole would feel all that different from our usual dinners. It absolutely did. The creamy sauce transforms everything into a rich, comforting meal that feels completely different from simply serving kielbasa and pierogies on a plate.

My boys loved it, the leftovers vanished quickly, and it’s definitely a recipe I’ll make again.
