Did you know that the Shirley Temple cocktail may have been invented in the 1930s by a bartender at Chasen’s, a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California, to serve then-child actress Shirley Temple. However, other claims to its origin have been made. Shirley Temple herself in the mid 80’s during an interview claimed to hate the sweet treat. My cupid’s cocktail is a spruced up Shirley Temple.
Cupid’s Cocktail
Regardless of its origin, I think we can all agree this is one iconic child’s treat. I remember as a child how special I felt when drinking a Shirley Temple out to dinner with my parents.
Somehow I had thought its coolness may have worn off by the time I had children and I am here to say this drink has only gained in popularity. My boys all love Shirley Temples and it gives them that same special feeling.
I adore to watch my boys order a Shirley Temple and see the twinkles in their eyes. I am not sure how this drink does it but it does.
How To Serve Up Cupid’s Cocktail
This Valentine’s Day make a batch of Cupid’s Cocktails for your kids and really make the day special. This is one of the easiest drinks to make and one we often don’t think to make at home. Imagine the smiles on your children’s faces when you serve them this yummy cocktail.
I did make a batch and poured it into a mason jar which I love. But I must say the martini glass just made it so much more spectacular. You pick the glass and I will tell you the recipe.
Can I Use Sparkling Water Instead of Lemon Lime Soda
I have not tried using sparkling water to replace the lemon-lime drink but I am sure it could be replaced.
It will of course alter the flavor a bit, but the bubbly will give it a nice tingle as you swallow. Any kind of sparkling water with some carbonation should do.
Can I Make Cupid’s Cocktail In Advance
You can whip up this drink and store it in a pitcher in the fridge. Then when you are ready to serve you will want to dress each cup.
If you do the cups in advance you will notice the toppings will meltdown. So don’t assemble drinks fill right before you serve.
Can I Make This An Alcoholic Cocktail
Sure, if you want an adult version simply add in a shot of vodka or tequila. Either would work and give you a nice hit of alcohol with each sip.
When I made this recipe I wanted it for kids, so hence why it’s a Mocktail. But with a simple change, it can be an adult beverage!
What Is Grenadine
Grenadine is a very popular cocktail syrup that is added to Mocktails and mixed drinks. This syrup offers a tart and sweet flavor that is irresistible.
Plus it has a nice rich and deep red color which is perfect for a Valentine Mocktail.
How Long Will Mocktail Store For
You can store your Mocktail for up to three days in the fridge. I find it is best when consumed within the first 2-3 days. Anything after you will find the flavors begin to change.
