I must start off by saying I am a huge Adam Sandler movie fan. I think I have seen them all.  If you love Adam Sandler movies you are going to love this.  If you love the eighties, you are going to love this movie.  Kevin James fan, yup you will love this movie.  Eighties arcade kid, yes you will be in heaven.

This movie appeals to both young and old.  I can not wait to take my boys and my husband to see the movie.  They will all LOVE it.

Pixels story:

In 1982 Nasa sent a time capsule into space in hopes of contacting other life forms.  Included, in the capsule, were examples of our life and culture.  Such as, Rubik’s cube, Pac Man, and Donkey Kong.  It was intended to be a message of peace but unfortunately it was not taken as such.  The aliens set place an attack on the Earth using the same video games included in the capsule as the models for their assaults on the Earth.

The story begin in the 1980’s in the arcade, The Electric Dream Factory.  We meet all of the characters with the exception of Michelle Monaghan, as tweens in the eighties arcades.  Adam Sandler and Kevin James are best friends.  Josh Gad is their frenemie.  Peter Dinklage is Adam Sandler’s fierce nemesis.

Adam Sandler, now a home theater installer meets Michelle Monaghan’s who just so happens to be a weapons designer for the government meet.  There is a cute little love story that develops between the two of them as any good action movie would have.  Just as they meet while Sam (Adam Sandler) is installing a home theater for Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle), who is going thru a nasty divorce.  Lt. Col. Violet has decided she does not like Sam (Adam) at all.  He thinks she is beautiful.  The attack on Earth begins.  Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten gets called in to the white house since she is needed as a weapons designer.

Once President Cooper (Kevin James) realizes that the attack that took place had a strange resemblance to an eighties arcade game.  He calls on his still best friend Sam (Adam) to put together an expert team of Arcaders to help fight the aliens.  It is their only hope!

One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when they are fighting the aliens and enlisted the help of Professor Iwatani (Denis Akiyama).  Professor Iwatani does not believe that Pac-Man is bad.  He decides he will leave his “ghost” vehicle in an attempt to talk to Pac-Man “because he is my son”, he says.  He starts talking to his son, Pac-Man, very sweetly who proceeds to bite off Professor Iwantani’s arm.  The scene is hysterical!

Cool Fact: The real Professor Iwatani makes a cameo appearance as a video game repairman in the 1980’s The Electric Dream Factory arcade.

Overall thoughts of the movie:  I just loved it.  It was fun, exciting, sweet and kid appropriate.  I love that is was exactly what I expect and love about a Happy Madison production.  As a Mom I love that there is nothing in the movie that I am embarrassed for my boys to see (yes I will not have to lean over at all in an attempt to cover my kids eyes or ears).
