Instant Pot Hungarian Goulash is a rich and vibrant dinner that is so hearty and comforting. Tender beef stew meat, savory beefy broth, and served over a bed of pasta, rice, or even mashed potatoes. This is the perfect cold-weather dish.
The instant pot is revolutionizing kitchens all across the country. More families are eating healthy. More families are sitting down and eating as a family. More families are eating less takeout/fast food. I am having a blast trying out my favorite recipes in the Instant Pot to speed up cooking in the kitchen.
My Grandmother used to make Hungarian Goulash for us when we were growing. I am thrilled that this recipe is very reminiscent of hers. I served mine over egg noodles but you can also serve it over mashed potatoes or white rice. Either way, you serve it, it is a delicious hearty meal. Serve it with warm crusty bread for a yummy stick to your ribs meal.
What Is Hungarian Goulash
Hungarian Goulash is unique and different from the classic goulash. It is made with stew meat that is seasoned with rich spices, onion, garlic and more. The Instant Pot helps really infuse those flavors into the meat and makes an incredible broth. Then many will serve over noodles, spaetzle (German egg noodles) or mashed potatoes.
You will also see some versions that have potatoes, carrots and even turnips in it. However you make it, you will find this recipe is incredible and worth trying.
What Is Hungarian Paprika
Hungarian paprika is really flavorful. It is made by grinding dried peppers for that rich and colorful paprika. Now, depending on which paprika you buy will depend on what type of heat factor it brings. Smokey, sweet and rich paprika that truly adds such a unique flavor to the dish.
How To Store Goulash
You will want your goulash to cool completely and then transfer to an airtight container and place in the fridge. It will store 3-4 days, and then need to be tossed. Use your best judgment on leftovers to ensure it is still fresh.
Can You Freeze Hungarian Goulash
Yes. You can easily freeze any goulash you won’t eat in time. Just put it in a freezer-friendly container and store up to three months. Thaw in the fridge overnight the night before you plan to eat. Then warm up in a saucepan on the stove or in the microwave.
Additional Ingredients To Add For More Flavor
- Diced Potatoes
- Bell Peppers diced
- Celery or Celery root
- Crispy crumbled bacon
- Once cooked pour in 1/2 cup of heavy cream and stir in sauce
- Top with sour cream in the bowl
Can I Use Steak In Replace Of Stew Meat
You can. Just make sure to dice the steak up into small bite-size pieces. Stew meat is a tender slice of meat. Other cuts of meat can work you just have to make sure you pre-slice it so it mimics smaller pieces of stew meat.
If you love stew this is a really savory upgrade in my opinion. My kids and husband gobble it up, and it makes a great lunch the next day. It is like the flavors blend even more and it becomes richer in flavor.
