To freeze butter simply move cold butter to a freezer or vacuum-sealed bag leaving the wax paper on. This will protect the butter from freezer burn and from picking up the other flavors and odors of your freezer. Butter loves to soak up other flavors making it important to seal it off from everything else. How Long Can You Freeze Butter

Make sure to freeze butter with at least 1 week remaining on its use by date. Butter can remain frozen for 6 months and should be kept in the back of the freezer where it will not be affected by the door opening causing the edges to thaw repeatedly.

To thaw butter simply pull it out of the freezer and place in your butter dish on the counter or inside your refrigerator overnight. If you need to melt the butter for a recipe you can move the butter directly from the freezer to your pan for melting. 

Butter can be used as normal after freezing and will last about a week after thawing. Thawed butter will have the same texture and flavor as fresh butter provided it was properly stored to protect it from odors and thawing in the freezer.
