Creamy Coleslaw Recipe
Who does not love a great coleslaw?! Quite often we are in a hurry and just grab the ready-made version in the supermarket as a time saver and the truth is, most often it’s terrible! This is such a simple recipe and has such delicious results. It is silly not to go ahead and make the most perfect homemade coleslaw.
Can I Make Coleslaw In Advance
Yes, you can make it ahead of time and have it chilling in the fridge for the best flavor. Feel free to make this up to 24 hours in advance if you would like.
What To Serve With Creamy Coleslaw
I love making this as a side dish to chicken, pork, and steak. Okay, I just love making this!! It also happens to be one of my father-in-law’s favorites so I am always happy to whip up a batch.
It is not too often that we have leftovers but if we do I love to have some on the side of a sandwich the next day. I usually have all the ingredients in the house so if I need a quick side dish to accompany our dinner I can always whip this up in a jiffy.
Can I Use A Head Of Cabbage Instead of Bag
You absolutely can. Now I like bagged for convenience but also it has sliced carrots in it. Depending on what your store carries you will find come bags have multi-colored cabbage.
If you want a head of cabbage just grab a sharp knife and thinly slice cabbage. Then if you want add in thin slices of carrots.
You are more than welcome to use green or purple cabbage, or do a mix for added color.
How to Store Homemade Coleslaw
Coleslaw has to be stored in the fridge, otherwise it will spoil. Just ensure your cold salad mixture is in the proper container and placed in fridge.
The cabbage breaks down more as it sits. You will also find coleslaw can become more watery as it sits in dressing.
Can You Freeze Coleslaw
No you are unable to freeze coleslaw. The liquid would cuddle but also the cabbage would broke so mushy it would not be appealing.
Just make what you know you can eat within 3-5 days of making it. I find the first two days is best on texture and flavor.
Will Creamy Coleslaw Double Well
You are more than welcome to double this recipe. Just grab a large enough bowl and get to whipping it up.
What If I Don’t Have Apple Cider Vinegar
In a pinch? Feel free to use white distilled to replace the Apple cider vinegar. It will adjust the flavor of this salad, but trust me it’s addictive.
Whip up this recipe today and let me know how you and your family enjoy it.
