I received the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Tri-Band Quad Stream from Best Buy to try out with my family. This could not have been any more perfectly selected for me because as a blogger I depend on my wi-fi for everything. I think many of us can relate to having issues with our Wi-Fi’s performance. Throw 6 other people into the mix, all trying to use the Wi-Fi at the same time and that basically is a set up for disaster. I have had many mom moments where I have wanted to disconnect every one of my kids devices. Each one of my 4 beautiful boys have multiple devices and have been known to use multiple devices at one time. How in the world was my old router supposed to keep up with all that was being drawn against it. In the end my work flow would come to a slow crawl. So needless to say when I was asked to try out the NETGEAR Nighthawk X8 AC5300 Tri-Band Quad Stream I practically jumped for joy.
Right away my excitement grew when I read about the increased Wi-Fi speed optimal for buffer-free streaming (Netflix, Hulu, etc.) and gaming (Xbox, Steam), and lag-free browsing allows you to connect an array of devices, old and new, without sacrificing performance. These routers automatically prioritize devices by wi-fi bandwith needs, or you can use the Network Map on the Genie app to manually prioritize. This was exactly what I needed help in. We are often using a combination of all of the above plus some more.
I also was really interested in the fact that I would have Complete control. I could setup parental controls to block access to specific sites on certain devices. Plus you can restrict access by time (ex. Shutting off certain devices from Wi-Fi during dinner or bed times). Or set up a dedicated guest network, allowing friends easy access to your wi-fi while safeguarding the files on your devices. Not only can all this be done easily, it can be done from the Netgear Genie iOS app or Android app. So this can be done from your compatible computer, tablet or smart phone.
I asked my husband to help me set up the Netgear Nighthawk router because I can sometimes get a bit frazzled when attempting something like this. He set up our last router and I remember, even for him, it was hours and hours of mumbling and grumbling. I was on stand by for a little bit of stress. I am more than pleased to report that this was about as stress free as can be. It is plug and play! It was the easiest set up ever. Once it was plugged in (my son John was connected to it in 30 seconds, I kid you not!) all I needed to do was download the app to my phone and we were on our way to parental controls, guest access, Wi-Fi analytics and all other kinds of awesome stuff.
