Holidays are my favorite!! 4th of July is one of my very favorite holidays. How could you not love 4th of July with all the Americana decor and treats. Bring on the treats!! These patriotic cherries are a special little treat you can whip up really quickly. I am world famous for making holiday bark so I always keep chocolate in the house ready for melting. I was feeling very inspired this year, melted my chocolate and started grabbing anything I could. Who could argue with anything chocolate dipped?!
You can use either fresh cherries which are in season and delicious right now. Or you can use maraschino cherries which are in season and delicious year round. My boys love maraschino cherries so I decided to use them. I normally am not a big fan of maraschino cherries but I must say these were hard to resist.
In a microwave-safe container microwave candy melts at 50% power or the defrost setting on your microwave. Melt for one minute to start. Remove and stir. Place back in the microwave for additional 30 seconds at 50% power. Remove and stir. Continue to do this in 30 second intervals until smooth and creamy. Remember less is better. You can help melt some pieces that are still not fully melted by stirring with a spoon. You do not want to over microwave your chocolate.
Once chocolate is melted, dip your cherries into the chocolate and then into a dish with your colored sugar sprinkles. Set aside to dry.
