$.60 Cent Fall Centerpiece

fall centerpiece$.60 Cent Fall Centerpiece

We are in a new house this year.  We sold our old house last March and moved to the other side of town, otherwise known as the right side of the tracks.  Well the story holds true, the right side of the tracks costs a heck of a lot more.  It was all well worth it, but its been a very expensive year.  With all this new space, we also needed lots of new things.  It can get a bit overwhelming and expensive when you keep buying all these knew things that you need.

Besides for the fact that money is tight! I love to decorate my home on the cheap while making it look like a million bucks.  Why spend money on super expensive things when you can duplicate them on the cheap.

Every store has super discounts on holiday items after the holiday.  I always always check out these deals!  Sometimes its really slim pickings and other times you can score some great items.  It’s always worth looking.

By the time I got to CVS this year, there was a little pile of 90% off items.  I found some boxes of Fall Decor, originally $5.99 marked down 90% = $.60 cents!  These could be used so many ways to decorate.  I figured I could put them into a pretty bowl, I have a couple of pedestal bowls that these would look awesome in, or I could just line some up on my mantel. I knew I would find lots of use for these, so I bought 3 boxes.

Getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner, I realized I did not buy any flowers for the table.  DING! A light bulb went off.  I keep all the best vases from when flowers have been sent to me over the years.  (You can also get tons of these vases at Goodwill for next to nothing) I arranged one box of my fall decor into one of my pretty glass vases and used the cute raffia ribbon that was on the box to tie around my vase.  That was it! It took all of a few minutes to put together and looked perfectly festive for the occasion.

Asian Chicken Marinade

asian chicken main

What can I say, I am a marinade lady! I love having a go to guaranteed delicious marinade.  I have two really awesome marinade recipes, World’s Best Steak Marinade and World’s Best Pork Marinade.  I have to say they are both delicious! I was on a quest to find a delicious chicken marinade. I must confess, I make a LOT of chicken.  This Asian Chicken Marinade recipe has my boys asking for more!

This recipe has the same essence of my other marinade recipes. I had too!  The flavor is what makes all of these marinades World’s Best! I could not be more excited with the final product.  The chicken is so tender from cooking in this marinade, that you barely need a knife to cut it.  Serve it over rice and pour some of the marinade over your rice too.

  1. Chicken Parts, I like boneless chicken thighs
  2. Olive Oil Spray, if you don't have regular cooking spray will be fine
  3. 1 Cup Water
  4. 1/3 Cup Balsamic Vinegar
  5. 1/3 Cup Soy Sauce
  6. 1 TBSP Honey
  7. 3 Cloves Garlic, chopped
  8. (I usually cook for 6 so I double up the recipe)
  1. In a large pan, I use a large deep frying pan, spray with cooking spray and brown the chicken on high for 3-4 minutes. Brown each side. Add water, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, honey, garlic and cook on high until the liquid comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes (turning chicken mid way). Remove the cover and heat back to high. Allow sauce to reduce down a bit. Cook about 8-10 minutes. Serve chicken over rice with plenty of marinade.

This post was made possible by iConnect: Influencer Management and Buddig. I was compensated for my time, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Based in Homewood, Illinois, Carl Buddig & Company has been feeding family traditions for more than 70 years with the very best in taste, variety and convenience. Carl Buddig & Company is the family-owned parent company of Buddig lunchmeat and Old Wisconsin hardwood-smoked sausage and snack products. Buddig offers an assortment of quality, thin-sliced lean meats for sandwiches, snacks and special recipes including Buddig Original, Premium Deli and Fix Quix products. Old Wisconsin sausage and meat snack products are handcrafted and smoked over real hardwood fires.

The company looks for ways to help keep families on their feet and feed each of their extended family’s own traditions through a variety of cause-marketing programs, monthly donations to charities and organizations, and consumer promotions throughout the year. From serving in the local Food Depository in support of #ShareALunch, to furthering education sessions for employees, organizing toy and food drives, making donations during the holidays and so much more. With programs and promotions that pay it forward to consumers, employees and the community, Carl Buddig & Company is committed to feeding family traditions both on and off the table.

Continuing with this tradition, the brands are excited to announce a new consumer promotion this year, the “Make It Delish Recipe Contest.” Buddig and Old Wisconsin fans make great cooks, so beginning Oct. 1, consumers can log on to www.makeitdelish.com and submit a recipe featuring their favorite Buddig and/or Old Wisconsin product — plus the secret ingredient — and enter for a chance to win a variety of cash prizes each month through Dec. 31 as well as a chance at the $10,000 Grand Prize.

Each month — October, November and December — will feature a new secret ingredient and a chance to win. At the end of each month, all the submitted recipes will be evaluated by a panel of judges, which includes Buddig family members and a trained chef. The top three scoring recipes each month will win 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250, respectively, as well as automatically be entered to be a Grand Prize finalist. Top-scoring recipes throughout the contest will also be featured in a special digital Buddig cookbook that will be available for download early 2016.  It would be so cool to have your recipe featured in the Buddig cookbook!

This months secret ingredient is Potato’s.  I came up with a delicious recipe that combined both the secret ingredient and the most delicious Ham I have tasted.  I had so much fun putting this recipe together and just dreaming about winning.  I would love to see your recipe, please don’t forget to come back and share it with me.

An unlimited number of recipes can submitted, but each recipe must be unique. Judges will be scoring recipes based on the following criteria:

  •  Simplicity: Is the recipe easy to make, are the directions clear and are ingredients easy to find?
  •  Creativity: Out-of-the-ordinary recipes will have an edge!
  •  Use of secret ingredient: Does the recipe do a good job of incorporating both the secret ingredient as well as the Buddig/Old Wisconsin product?
  •  Flavor: Does the end result taste good?

After all Grand Prize finalists have been selected, voting will be open to the general public for them to decide which recipe takes the cake. The recipe with the most votes will be named the Grand Prize winner and receive $10,000. An additional $10,000 will also be given to the winner’s primary retailer, who will donate the prize winnings to its charity of choice.

Before I share my amazeballs recipe with you.. lets have a little giveaway fun!

This week I am thankful for so much! #fightsnotover #suffragette

With Thanksgiving being this week, now is the time for us to reflect on things to be thankful for.  Honestly ever since seeing Suffragette I have been thankful. I was definitely one of those girls that took our rights for granted.  I was raised by a tremendously strong feminist and grew into my own.  I had no idea that the rights, opportunities and voice that we have were something earned such a short time ago.  I was shocked at the end of the movie when it was scrolling the dates when women earned these same rights in other countries, to learn how some of those just happened such a short time ago.  It was SHOCKING to me!  I am embarrassed to say, I had my head stuck in the sand a bit.  It was my obligation as a proud feminist to really understand the sacrifices made by so many women to earn me those rights and what it really means to have these rights and voice.

While I am so grateful for all that we have, and trust me I know that women still battle in this country for complete equality, but we do have the equal rights.  Watch this shocking video and you will see that there are still many women around the globe who do not have equal rights.

  suffragette did you know

Imagine a world where you couldn’t leave your home without a man’s permission. For some women, that is their reality. The Suffragettes ignited the fight for women’s equality and it’s up to us to finish it. See the film, and take action at FightsNotOver.com

Estrogel for comfortable menopause

Estrogel for comfortable menopause

Although menopause is unique experience for every woman, it can be a very negative one. As soon as a person enters this period of life, she will start experiencing hot flashes while having irregular menstruation. At first, these cycles can be much shorter so person will have much more of them during one year. Later on, cycles will become longer making them appear fewer times during the year.

Have in mind that symptoms that are characteristic for menstruation can also change. Bleeding can become much longer or shorter while the amount of blood may reduce or increase in quantity. These issues are not only connected to premenstrual period. Sometimes, they might indicate that woman is suffering from another medical condition. Because of that, person will have to visit a doctor just to make sure and stay safe. This is especially recommended if cycle is shorter than 21 days or if the bleeding lasts more than seven days. Sometimes, bleeding may appear between two menstrual cycles which is especially frightening. On more than one occasion, this issue with bleeding may result in anemia. Patient may think that she has menopausal symptoms but in fact, she just might be pregnant.

The most common issue that appears during menopausal period is hot flashes. They can last for couple of months up to several years (usually from 3 to 5). Patient will have to buy Estrogel online in order to eliminate this condition. However, if you stop using the drug, hot flashes will reappear. According to research performed by You! Drugstore, very small number of women will have this problem during eighth decade of life. Reason why hot flashes appear is due to malfunctioning of temperature regulation center. It is positioned within the brain and it highly susceptible to changes in levels of estrogen. These episodes are commonly accompanied with sweating (especially during the night), increased heart rate, anxiety and even panic. This symptom can create issues during work given that it interrupts sleep of a person.

Another big problem that comes with menopause is vaginal dryness. Similarly to everything else within the body, it is caused due to lack of estrogen. Up to that point, this hormone was used to activate surrounding organs and lubricate vagina. Due to lack of moist, women will have painful intercourse. In time, this can also lead to lowered libido.

Estrogel is one of the best medicines on the market for vaginal dryness and hot flashes. As its name implies, it comes in a form of gel and it increases amount of estrogen within organism. It can be applied with a pump and it needs to be put on clean, dry, non-infected skin. Hormonal supplements such as this can lead to increased risk of uterine cancer. Because of this, patient is advised to take progestin supplements at the same time in order to balance functions within the body. Women who have history of vaginal bleeding, bleeding disorders, liver, heart or hormonal issues, as well as those that have allergic reaction to the drug, should not use Estrogel.

WIN a $750 Prize Package from The Mrs Band #EvenThough #ImEnough

Cooking was not something that came easy for me.  Even though I am a happy food based blogger my road to this point had a bit of bumpy start.  My mother was a very strong working woman but never really spent much time in the kitchen while I was growing up.  I had to learn all on my own.  I was hosting my first Thanksgiving ever, many many years ago, and was excited and nervous about having everything perfect.  I had no idea they had the giblet bag stuck down the turkeys neck.  I mean, no idea!!  Imagine my surprise to find that after all the cooking was done.  I cried my eyes out like a baby!! LOL  But in the end I am still laughing about it. #EvenThough…#ImEnough!

So, maybe you’re wondering why I’ve told you my #EvenThough…#ImEnough story. There are so many plates spinning during the holidays that it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that you’re never enough. Mistakes happen, blood pressures rise, things get spilled, balls get dropped basically, that moment you had planned to go one way turns out the exact opposite.

In those moments, instead of crying, take a picture and share it with The Mrs. band on Facebook, on Twitter and/or Instagram. We can all lift you up! We can laugh about these things that make us imperfect and remind ourselves that we are enough anyway. Use #EvenThough…#ImEnough.

#EvenThough…#ImEnough is all about us. It’s no surprise that we get overwhelmed during the holidays. We know that Thanksgiving and Christmas is all about family and loved ones and celebrating with them, but we often get caught up in believing we have to find the perfect present and create the perfect holiday surroundings. We’ve seen so many perfect holiday decorations and meals on Pinterest and in magazines, and we think we should be able to replicate that in our home. What should be a peaceful, loving time of gratitude and celebration becomes crazed, hectic, and stressful. Together with The Mrs., we’re aiming to change that!

Here are some more #EvenThough…#ImEnough story examples, from members of The Mrs. band.

I was walking around my kids school carnival and sat down to talk with a group of moms when I noticed something was coming out of the bottom of my jeans. When I looked down, I noticed it was a weird bulge on my calf that went down my leg. What in the world can that be? I asked myself, and as I went to pull it out, I had this horrible realization: That’s my underwear! They must have hitched a ride with my jeans when I pulled them out of the dryer.

I was sitting with a group of moms, so I couldn’t just casually yank these out and act like it was perfectly natural, like I was a clown casually holding conversation while pulling a never-ending stream of scarves from out of my sleeve except it would be underwear and my pant leg. Even worse, I realized that I had just been talking with my daughters school principal and walking all over the school grounds. Did people see the weird bulge? I had on skinny jeans!

Luckily, my youngest daughter came over right then and asked me to come play with her on one of the rides. I went over with her, ducked down, and, thinking I was safely hidden, put my purse in front of my leg and pulled the underwear out. Just then another mom came over and asked if I needed bug spray because I was getting bit by bugs. Oh, no, that’s okay I quickly said, shoving the pair in my purse, not knowing if she saw me. All I know is that my calf was now panty free.

I will never pull pants out of the dryer again without checking them first…thoroughly.

Underwear in Pants
#EvenThough I had no idea this pair of underwear was poking out of my jeans the entire time I was at my daughters’ school carnival, #ImEnough! #themrsband #theywereclean #mydryerisouttogetme #apairtospare — Andra from The Mrs. band

Some people drop 30lb bags of food for their dogs and spill it all over the kitchen floor.

Dog Food
#EvenThough this just happened, I still fed it to my dogs. And you know what? I’m not ashamed #ImEnough! –Christie from The Mrs. band

Other people accidentally drive off of curbs and have to call for tow trucks when the car gets stuck.

car curb

I will NEVER live this down. #EvenThough I’ll hear about this for the rest of my life, I know I can handle it and laugh, because #ImEnough! #yesmykidsareintheback #theythoughtitwashilarious — Nikki from The Mrs. band

So, next time you’re having a moment where you think, Did this really just happen right now? Really!?! Do I laugh or cry?, keep in mind that we all have our #EvenThough moments!

So let’s be in it together. The Mrs. band has created something really fun that will have us laughing and cringing together. Even though you might be feeling low and frustrated and uncertain of how things will turn out…we want to be right there with you, reminding you that you are enough! From November 23 through December 13th, share and tag posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of all the moments that did not happen the way you anticipated. The Mrs. will be sharing their moments, too…because we all have plenty!

Here’s how it works:

Share and tag posts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter of all the moments that did not happen the way you anticipated. Use the hashtag #EvenThough and #themrsband and make sure to tell us #ImEnough! *Photos not always necessary for Facebook and Twitter!*

Post as much as you want! Tell your friends! We’ll laugh together!

Plus…the winner gets a goodie basket FULL of prizes. That’s right, by sharing your #EvenThough…#ImEnough moments on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you’ll be entered to win a fabulous prize package from The Mrs. Band, valued at over $750! This $750 prize package contains:

$100 Amazon Giftcard Giveaway! #BeKindToCaregivers

We are sharing this post as part of a Bloggin’ Mamas Social Good Campaign, and were not compensated for doing so.

random acts

Bloggin’ Mamas is sponsoring this giveaway in support of the Ad Council and the AARP  & helping to raise awareness of the Caregiver Assistance campaign. November is National Family Caregivers month, and the Random Acts of Kindness initiative aims to recognize and support the 40 million unpaid caregivers in the U.S. Many caregivers are boomer women, often sandwiched between the needs of their parents and their own kids.

A popular misconception is that caregivers are paid medical professionals, providing full-time care to someone in need of daily help, when in reality, most caregivers are family members or friends who are also working and managing their own families at the same time. For many, the caregiving role starts with simple things like scheduling a doctor’s visit or helping with daily errands, but gradually expands over time, until it becomes a major commitment in their lives.

This month, they kicked off a program designed to encourage all Americans to perform an unexpected Random Act of Kindness for a caregiver. By starting this nationwide movement, they’ll raise awareness of caregiving and caregivers while at the same time reaching caregivers directly helping to alleviate some of their daily stresses and reward them for their ongoing support.

Info & Resources

Watch This Video!

Almost three in ten people who are caring for someone say their life has changed with caregiving, oftentimes for the negative. More than one in five say their weight, their exercise, or their social life has/have suffered. Emotionally, one in five say they are generally unhappier and one in three say they feel sad or depressed. That’s why AARP created a community where caregivers can connect with experts and other caregivers and can find information and tools to take even better care of the person who once took care of them.
